This, that, and the other things
Sep. 26th, 2017 08:25 amSoooo, its been a while, hasn't it? Nothing major has happened here, mostly, but lots of little things.
Lets see, playing with Linux distros a little bit more, but nothing major to mention. I did just change the laptop back to ArchLabs after giving Manjaro Deepin a short (very short) go. Various random inexplicable glitches killed that off, a choice that was easy as I'd only switched to match it with the desktop.
Got a new TV, a 43. Would've settled for a 32, but the deal on the 43 was too good. And we sorta needed one as the living room set died.
Speaking of the living room, we got rid of it more or less. We moved the library up there, the bedroom to the back, and the front bedroom is basically a junk room now. Vik's craft desk is in the new living room, as is his old Dell computer which is hooked up to the TV. I decided to do that as the computer can play DVDs, allow us to stream from sites that don't allow streaming, and prolly from any of the sites that have Roku apps as well. We could however use a better Linux for it, its running an older version of Mint, and I'm not a fan of the Cinnamon interface. Wonder if there's a good one for TV, or what's the best way to set one up.
Still proofreading stories on SOL and FiM, with the latter up to 20 stories and who knows how many chapters. Heck, Dawn got far more than edits from me, I wrote two pages in chapter 8! I've also posted a story over there as well, actually an epilogue for someone else's work, though that might be old enough to have been in the last entry, I'm too lazy to check though.
We gots us a new car... truck... trucklet:
Subaru Crosstrek, base model, power everything, cruise control and all wheel drive. This is going to be a bit expensive, payments are going to be $400 along with the insurance which is $181 next month, dunno about the future. It's amazing the fuel economy, we're getting about 31MPG out of that in mixed driving whereas the Cobalt only managed 27. Sure, they're technically the same size, this one might even be a bit smaller, but its taller, heavier and less aerodynamic. Cargo-wise it's better of course, but that's to be expected since the Cobalt was a sedan, and even with fold down seats, it wasn't real easy to fit anything significant in it.
Watched the new Star Trek. Not bad, time will tell how it works out, but at least it wasn't terrible out of the box. I will say that I sorta watched the first episode, it kept stopping and starting as that Dell I mentioned earlier uses the cheapest USB to WiFi adapter I could get at the time since the whole project theme was cheap test computer. Chakat Silvertail made an ethernet cable, so now we've got good bandwidth, and the second episode went smoothly.
That's about all that's going on now, about the only foreseen thing is an upgrade to the abomination in the form of a Roku2. I don't think we'll be needing the Roku in the living room what with the computer, so use that one on the abomination instead, might even throw in an SD card.
